I had a really great reading week last week with my readathon! I ended up reading eight books for a total of 2,813 pages and that’s way more than I was expecting to do. Here’s a look at the TBR I set for myself last week, whether or not I completed it, and what I’m hoping to read this week!
I was expecting great things from Birthday and Meredith Russo definitely did not disappoint. This was a surprisingly fast read but that did not take away from any of the emotion these pages contained. Russo is an author that I will read anything they write. Make sure you come back tomorrow to read my full review of this incredible novel.
Holy moly this book was so incredibly adorable? I was super nervous and worried when I saw that The Boy Next Story was 450 pages long because I am not used to reading contemporaries of that length but it was so great! This is the second book in the Bookish Boyfriends series but you don’t have to read the first, A Date with Darcy, before reading this one! I’ll have a full review for you on Wednesday as part of the blog tour so keep an eye out for that!
Third time’s the charm and I finally read Something Like Gravity like I’ve been telling y’all I would for weeks! I have really mixed feelings about it and I can’t decided if I liked it or if I didn’t like it. There were a lot of components that I’m just like “yes, that was great!” but also several things that bothered me. It felt unnecessarily long and it seemed like there was just so much filler thrown in that wasn’t completely necessary and it really bogged the story down for me. My full review will be up closer to the release date at the end of June as part of the blog tour!
Wonder Woman is the only book from last week’s planned TBR that I didn’t get to. I had chosen it, or rather my husband had, for the ‘choose a random book’ prompt as part of the readathon I took part in. It was kind of replaced with Aurora Rising (please tell me I’m not the only one that hated that book…) since I wasn’t expecting to get a copy of it and really had to read it right that second. I might try and read Wonder Woman this week, but I’m honestly just really nervous about it. I’m afraid I won’t like it and it will really bog me down.
The only thing Devil in Ohio had going for it was that it was an incredibly fast read. Everything else about this was just frustrating and not good. Honestly I probably would have DNFed it if it hadn’t been one I was able to get through so quickly, and I kept hoping that it would somehow get better. The entire thing was pointless with no clear plot and the ending wasn’t an ending at all. It’s full of plot holes and questions that are never answered.
My third time reading Illuminae was thankfully nowhere near being a disappointment. I knew what was going to happen the entire time but somehow I still felt my heart racing and the intensity of everything. I am so excited for my reread of Gemina now so I can finally finish the series with Obsidio!
Very quickly I went from being on top of everything to drowning. I’m working hard on getting caught up on my review copies and the next one I need to read is No Place Like Here by Christina June for the blog tour! This will be my first novel by June and I’m honestly so excited. The cover is gorgeous and it seems right up my alley. I’m really loving how all of June’s covers go together so well and they are aesthetically pleasing. I haven’t even read any of them yet but I just want all of them on my shelf in a rainbow of beauty.
This is another review copy I was sent for a blog tour and it sounds so fun! Secrets of a Fangirl sounds like no other middle grade novel I’ve read and I’m ready for it! It seems like it’s going to full of so much personality and important life lessons. My stop on the blog tour is on Tuesday where I’ll have an interview for you with the author, Erin Dionne. Keep an eye out in June though where I’ll be sharing a review of the book as well!
It looks like this is going to be a purple filled week because my just for funsies book I want to read it Hot Dog Girl! I swear I didn’t pick all purple books on purpose….it’s probably the bisexual in me making subconscious decisions. I don’t actually pre-order books a lot just because I usually don’t have the extra finances for it, but this is one I did (I needed those pre-order campaign stickers, okay?) and I’m so excited I can finally read it!
What was your favorite book from last week and what are you hoping to read this week? Let me know in the comments!
