Guest Post: The Book Bratz’s Favorite Books From the Past Decade

Hi everybody! I’m Jessica, one of the founders and co-bloggers of The Book Bratz, a YA book blog. I’m here on Mari’s blog today to talk about ten of my favorite YA books from the past decade! Since I’m only 21 (I am a #baby), I’m going to list these ten books not by the year I read them, but by the year they were released, since I was only 11 ten years ago and didn’t start to really dive into YA until I was about 12 or 13. So without further ado, let’s get into my favorite YA books of the past decade!

2019: DEFY ME (Shatter Me, #5) by Tahereh Mafi

As someone who has been a fan of the Shatter Me series for the longest time, this book absolutely destroyed me. It was released this year and I couldn’t put it down, especially since I’m a huge Juliette and Warner fan, so if you’re looking for a book that makes you swoon, gasp, and ugly cry, then this is definitely one to consider.

2018: SAVE THE DATE by Morgan Matson

I’m a huge contemporary rom-com nerd, so mix all that up in a story that takes place during a *wedding* has me even more hooked. I seriously couldn’t put this one down, and I adored Matson’s writing!

2017: WHEN DIMPLE MET RISHI by Sandhya Menon

Because clearly I’m establishing a trend of loving powerful-women rom-coms.

Another Matson book makes the list!

2015: ILLUMINAE by Amy Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

This was one of the most creatively written and put-together books I’ve ever read, and it shocked me in the best of ways!

2014: THE ONE (The Selection, #3) by Kiera Cass

The ending of the original Selection series had me ugly-crying on the beach, and I had to go back and reread several scenes because I just loved them that much,

2013: THE MOON AND MORE by Sarah Dessen

I *vividly* remember harassing the poor librarian to take the book out of the box on release day, because I wanted to read it right that second, and she felt so bad for eager little me that she actually did it!

2012: THE FAULT IN OUR STARS by John Green

I mean, I already admitted that I’m a sucker for heart-wrenching romances. Are any of us surprised by this pick?

2011: AWAKENED (House of Night, #8) by P.C. Cast

I had a hardcore phase where I stanned vampires, and my suffering through the House of Night series and its million books is testament to that.

2010: MOCKINGJAY (The Hunger Games, #3) by Suzanne Collins

I think I’m *still* recovering from that epilogue scene?

2009: BEAUTIFUL CREATURES by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

Fun fact: Emily (my co-blogger) and I used to be such huge fans of this series, so when the first book came out, we were absolutely obsessed. Emily even has a crescent moon tattoo on her wrist now that she got because the book meant so much to her!

So those are my favorite YA books of the past decade — what are yours? I’d love to hear them, so feel free to comment down below or Tweet me them. It was actually super fun to look up the release dates from some of my favorite books and take a trip down memory lane that way!! I’d also like to thank Mari for being kind enough to let me stop by her blog today — if you’re interested in keeping up with The Book Bratz’s antics, you can check out our blog, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook!
