The Reader Problems Tag

I know I usually post reviews on Mondays, but I have several coming your way on other days this week, so I thought I’d do something different today! This tag was originally created by About To Read on YouTube and I found it on Destiny’s blog, Howling Libraries.

You have 20,000 books on your TBR. How in the world do you decide what to read next?

Well…how presumptuous, and totally correct, of you to assume my TBR is so huge. If I’m reading an ARC, then I look at my post schedule and read whichever one is due for review first. Non-review copies are chosen by whatever mood I’m in since I’m the hugest mood reader you’ll ever meet in your life.

You’re halfway through a book and you’re just not loving it. Do you quit or are you committed?

It’s actually pretty rare for me to DNF a book. I don’t have a problem with other people doing it and I don’t think it’s the wrong thing for somebody to do, but for me it’s really hard. DNFing always makes me feel guilty.

The end of the year is coming and you’re so close, but so far away on your Goodreads reading challenge. Do you try to catch up and how?

I don’t give up until the very end! If I need to cram some reading in to catch up I’ll find some poetry or graphic novels to devour.

The covers of a series you love do. not. match. How do you cope?

Do I wish they would match? Yeah, I do. Is it the end of the world for me that they don’t? Nope. This really isn’t something that bothers me too much.

Every one and their mother loves a book you really don’t like. Who do you bond with over shared feelings?

Brittany from Geronimo Reads and I have a pretty great track record of liking and disliking the same books!

You’re reading a book and you are about to start crying in public. How do you deal?

Let the tears fall! I’m a pretty quiet crier, and books don’t actually make me cry too terribly often, so this is something I can handle.

A sequel of a book you loved just came out, but you’ve forgotten a lot from the prior novel. Will you re-read the book? Skip the sequel? Try to find a synopsis on Goodreads? Cry in frustration?!?!?!?

Y’all are probably going to hate me for this, but if I’ve forgotten a lot from the previous novels then odds are I’ll probably never read the sequel. I’m horrible at finishing series. And also horrible at re-reading things.

You do not want anyone. ANYONE. borrowing your books. How do you politely tell people nope when they ask?

One of my worst traits is how big of a people pleaser I am. The idea of telling somebody “no” is terrifying. Usually I’ll tell them yes then do everything I can to avoid them until I feel like it’s been forgotten about.

Reading ADD. You’ve picked up and put down 5 books in the last month. How do you get over your reading slump?

My best advice for a reading slump is don’t force yourself to read! When I’m in the middle of one, I put the books aside and instead use the time to get caught up on my Netflix shows.

There are so many new books coming out that you’re dying to read! How many do you actually buy?

None 😦 In my dreams I buy them all! Right now, though, I’m not financially able to buy books and it breaks my heart.

After you’ve bought the new books you can’t wait to get to, how long do they sit on your shelf before you get to them?

FOR. EV. ER. I’m the queen of letting things sit on my shelf for years before finally reading them. It’s like a requirement that a book sits there for at least 15 months before getting read.

I tag:

Alexa from Writing the Universe
Arin from Tomes of Our Lives
Shon from Books and Bugs

How do you decide what you’re going to read next? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I’m the same with sequels, I literally never finish them which sucks. For me it’s because I like to reread the other books which I don’t always have time to do so I just never read the next ones. Like, I really loved Caraval and have read it twice but because I don’t remember all the details, I want to reread Caraval before moving on to Legendary… but I just don’t have time. And then once I finished Legendary I’d have to read Finale straight away otherwise then I’d have to reread Caraval and Legendary as well.
So I doubt I’ll finish that series.
Deciding what I’ll read next.. I’m a mood reader so I’ll just get whatever I’m in the mood for? Or sometimes I’ll buy a book and then decide that’s my next read, so after I reread This Savage Song my next one will be either The Foxhole Court or Ace of Shades 🙂

  2. All of your answers felt like I could have written them lol I am also terrible at finishing series and just don’t care enough if I forget something – means I must not have liked the book that much! Thanks for sharing 🙂
