Celebrating Sweater Weather with the Autumn Tag

I don’t think anybody is more ready than I am for cool autumn days where I can curl up in my favorite sweater with a hot pumpkin spice latte. Those are the days I live for. The days that feed my soul. The days that I anxiously await every year.

They haven’t quite arrived yet in my part of the world but they are getting close! To celebrate I’ll be completing The Autumn Tag that was created by Jenn from Jenniely!

Hot chocolate – what is your comfort book?

I feel like I kind of have a lot of comfort books – Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, If I Stay by Gayle Forman, Confess by Colleen Hoover, Harry Potter. On any given day I can hug one of these books to my heart and feel warm fuzzy feelings.

Pumpkin Carving – what is your favorite creative outlet?

Definitely blogging. I’m really not a creative person at all so most artsy things stress me out. With blogging, though, I can get my thoughts out about anything and it’s nice to have something to focus on when life is being crazy.

Falling Leaves – changes that appear bad but you secretly love?

I had just shared the other day that change scares me – a lot. So really any kind of change is going to appear bad to me. The last time this happened in a big way was just over a year ago when I was forced to quit my job for various reasons. It was terrifying because my income was crucial to us being able to pay our bills. We somehow have been making it work though and being a stay-at-home mom to Elliott has been a dream come true!

Pumpkin Spiced Latte – something you love that others tend to judge

Taylor Swift – people sure do love to make fun of not just her but also anybody that’s into her. It’s okay if you don’t love her but you don’t have to be rude to people who do.

Bonfire Night – what makes you explode with joy?

My son, Elliott. Somehow every single thing he does is the absolute cutest! Also, Grey’s Anatomy. I could literally watch this show all day every single day. Can it please never end?

Fright Night – favorite scary book or film

My most recent favorite scary book has been Remember Me by Chelsea Bobulski. It had great story telling, multifaceted characters, and twists and turns at every corner (read my full review). My all time favorite scary movie is probably Hide and Seek with Dakota Fanning.

Halloween candy – favourite thing to eat

Everything? I just really like food. Just nothing with coconut or mushrooms though. Some of my favorites are probably nachos, avocados, and chicken nuggets.

Scarves – your autumn ‘must have’ accessory

Sweaters and cardigans. It’s honestly really rude of the weather that I can’t wear them all year round? They make me feel so warm and safe and a person can never have too many.

Fire – a book or film that burns your soul

Right now it’s definitely You’d Be Mine by Erin Hahn. This book reminded me of my roots and how important country music was to me in high school. It reached into the very depths of me and made me feel so many emotions. Read my full review!

Toffee apples – a book or film that seems one thing but really has a different inside

My dad and I used to watch a lot of scary movies when I was younger and we loved M. Night Shyamalan so naturally we watched The Sixth Sense. The ending of that movie was not what I was expecting and it gave me an existential crisis at like nine years old.

What is your favorite thing about autumn? Or are you more of a summer soul? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Change has always scared me. At work I have a new manager and he has been the one to mentor me to the point that I’m ready to jump in and change roles at work. Now I’m working towards a goal of being an assistant manager within 2-3 years. This has led me to not be so scared anymore about changes. Just need a plan.

I loved tbis tag so much that I’m going to do it too… sometime soon I hope. I never seem.to have enough time to blog consistently, but I’m working on changing that.

Also, kids are wonderful. Even when mine is trying my patience, I cannot imagine my life without her. I’ve been following your journey on Twitter and sending your family all the good vibes. 💕

    1. I’m so glad that your new manager has helped you like that! Having goals definitely does make change a little easier.

It’s totally okay if you don’t have time to blog consistently! That’s something I love about blogging is the freedom that comes along with it. I can do it when I want to and there are no set rules I have to follow. I totally get wanting to blog more though. I always feel so guilty on the days I don’t have a post go up!

Thank you so very much for sending my family good vibes. We definitely need it!

  2. I hate how we don’t have four seasons in the Philippines. It would be lovely to experience autumn

OH, same about blogging! I’m really not an artsy person, but I feel like I really let my creativity shine through my blog, and I love it. I get stressed about a lot of things, but it’s always nice to know that my blog is here for me at the end of the day!

aww, coconut and mushrooms are two of my favorite toppings though :(( 😂 Why don’t you like them?

I hope you have a wonderful autumn, Mari!!

    1. We really only have two seasons where I am – summer and winter. Spring and Autumn are so brief that you can’t really count them. I would love to live somewhere that has all four seasons equally. Or that’s autumn and winter the whole year. I hate the summer heat.

Yes! My blog stresses me out sometimes because I try so very hard to post every single day. But it’s a different kind of stress than the rest of life brings so it’s okay haha.

My husband loves both of them too! For coconut I just really hate the taste. Mushrooms it’s everything. I hate the taste, texture, idea of fungus, everything. And it doesn’t matter how much of one of those is in something. I can always taste the tiniest of bits.

  3. I’m NOT A FAN of change. Never have been. So I totally understand the fear that accompanies it.

I loved this post, and I kind of now want to do this tag on my blog, you’ve inspired me! I’m so ready for fall weather and not sweating to death in Maryland humidity! Give me coffee, apple cider, pumpkin carving, sweater and scarves! My body is ready!
Hope you have a wonderful autumn!

    1. Why does it have to be so scary?!

I’m glad you liked it and I hope you complete the tag! It was a nice one to do. Oklahoma has still been having ridiculously hot days so I’m right there with you. We went to Target earlier and I was eyeing all the cardigans and wanting them all but knowing I would have a heat stroke if I tried to wear any of them right now.

      1. I envy people who don’t have a fear of change. I wish.

And MD has had a few cooler days, low to mid 70s with a break in the humidity, but the weather around here is so temperamental, I wouldn’t be shocked if the humidity sky rockets again and it gets gross. I’ve already been wearing sweaters because I’m SO ready.

      2. On 8/23 when Lover released I wore one of my shirts from this era because how could I not except the only ones I have are long sleeve and I was sweating so bad all day but I was not going to give into the weather haha. And then I have a long sleeve shirit that’s a little thinner I’ve started wearing sometimes and just pulling the sleeves up on because I AM READY. I’ve also been drinking all the pumpkin spice lattes haha

      3. I bought two kind of chunky knit sweaters from Old Navy and between the two of them, I wore them for like a week straight in the middle of August because 1) they were new and 2) because I’m ready for fall and it didn’t matter it was still 80 degrees with like 70% humidity😂
I’m not really a PSL fan, BUT give me warm apple cider and I’m trash. So good!

      4. I do that with new clothes to! I always have to put it on immediately and then refuse to take it off haha. And ugh, I’m such a sucker for anything pumpkin. I’ll try anything pumpkin flavored. I like warm apple cider though too! It’s just so different.

      5. Exactly! It’s new therefore it’s my favorite!
Yeah, idk why I’m not a pumpkin flavor fan. Everyone else in my family is. I definitely fall on the apple side of autumn.
About the only pumpkin thing I do enjoy is carving and roasting the seeds!

      6. I’m the only person in my family that is obsessed with pumpkin flavored things lol. My husband things I’m crazy. Hopefully Elliott will be my pumpkin buddy. It’s funny though because I HATE carving pumpkins! I’m so horrible at it. HOW DO YOU DO IT?!
