I like to think I’m not a book snob but in reality y’all probably think I am. And I’m okay with that. I like what I like *shrug emoji* Grey from Use Your Words was a darling and tagged me in this and it was originally created by tia and all the books on YouTube!
Adaptation Snob: Do you always read the book before you see the movie?
I used to be a hardcore READ THE BOOK BEFORE THE MOVIE person but now like who has time for that? Really I don’t even watch that many movies or tv shows so it usually isn’t an issue. Right now I’d say I mostly read them after I see the adaptation.
Format Snob: You can only choose one format in which to read books for the rest of your life. Which one do you choose: physical books, ebooks, or audiobooks?
This questions is stressing me out. I think I’ll go with physical books – at the end of the day I do prefer reading them because I don’t get distracted as easily and I read them quicker. Plus, I love seeing all of them on my shelves. But I wouldn’t be mad if something happened and I was only able to read ebooks because they’re so much easier to read when I’m at the hospital with Elliott which is a lot.
Ship Snob: Would you date or marry a non-reader?
I kind of did? My husband goes through phases where he loves to read but overall I’d definitely say he’s more of a non-reader. Do I try to force books on him because I wish he would read? Yes. Does it ever go well? No. Sometimes I wish we could curl up on the couch together with our respective books and spend a nice quiet evening like that but I instead I read while he plays video games and honestly I’m not mad about it.
Genre Snob: You have to ditch one genre – never to be read again for the rest of your life. Which one do you ditch?
FAN-TA-SY! Really, are y’all surprised?
Uber Genre Snob: You can only choose to read from one genre for the rest of your life. Which genre do you choose?
I would seriously be perfectly happy only reading contemporary for the rest of my life. I mean, I kind of already exclusively read that genre anyway.
Community Snob: Which genre do you think receives the most snobbery from the bookish community?
I really can’t decide between romance and poetry. A ton of people seem to have the mindset that romance books aren’t to be taken seriously and that couldn’t be more wrong. When it comes to poetry people seem to think the opposite and assume it’s too pretentious which can be true sometimes but definitely not the majority of the time.
Snobbery Recipient: Have you ever been snubbed for something that you have been reading or for reading in general?
Yes. I think most adults that read middle grade and young adult novels have been snubbed. A lot of adults don’t consider young adult to be “actual novels” (whatever that means) but umm these books explore way deeper topics than adult fiction does and they’re way more diverse so I think I’ll keep them.
Do you think I’m a book snob or am I pretty laid back? Let me know in the comments!

Love this! Definitely going to have to do this tag eventually hahaha

This is such a cool tag and you have such interesting answers! I’m with you on the format question – I really don’t mind.

Thanks so much! And yes, I think as long as I could read in some way I’d be happy!

This is a great tag and you give some amazing answers here! I don’t mind watching before reading the book and I’m fine with both ebooks and physical format. Same with being in a relationship with non-readers, I don’t think it really matters for me ahaha. I totally agree about romance and poetry received the most snobbery. Especially romance!

I love that we have so many of the same answers! And I definitely think romance probably gets the most snub just because a lot of people kind of ignore poetry?

I love this tag! Totally agree with you about romance and poetry being on the receiving end of snobbery from the community. Great post!

Romance and poetry are two of my favorites so I hate how much snobbery they get. And thank you!!

I really think it’s a shame that readers are shamed for the age range of the novels. There are so many reasons to read books of any age range! Also, I’m right there with you in the relationship department. My fiancé mostly listens to audiobooks rather than sitting down and reading physical copies, though I’ve asked before on road trips if he’d like me to read out loud. We also have very different tastes in book genre lol…

You are so right about the poetry! People think poetry is **deep** and **meaningful** and sometimes it is, but it can also be funny or frivolous.

Yes! And I think a lot of people assume that just because some poetry is deep and meaningful it automatically makes it impossible to understand and makes it pompous but that isn’t the case at all.

I’d definitely ditch fantasy too lol

I want to do this tag!
The fantasy part still hurts me </3
I also definitely get shamed for reading MG/YA. Some of it's just good-natured ribbing but it still gets old. If it makes me happy and isn't hurting anyone, why does it matter?

You should! I’m horrible at remembering to tag people at the end so consider this your official tagging in the tag.
I know – but you still love me!

I loved reading this tag so so much, and I relate to all your answers—well, except the one about genres, haha!! I hate that most adults look down on YA, and that adults who do read it are looked down upon. Sure, there are some bad YA books, but they don’t represent the entire age group.

Thank you! It was a fun one to do. We are definitely opposite on our genre preferences! I think most adults just tend to focus on the bad/cringey books. But at the same time – if kids are reading then what does it matter if they find it cringey?

I love your answers Mari!
I never thought about the snobbery towards poetry but now that you mention I know that a lot of people won’t have a bar of the new style of poetry that’s become popular.

Thanks so much! And yes, the new style of poetry is what made me fall in love with the genre. I hate that people have such a bad attitude about it.

I don’t really have a favourite yet. I keep telling myself I’m going to read a poetry books and then never get around to it 🙈 I’ve read a lot more on tumblr but I never remember who wrote them

This tag seems like so much fun! If I had to ditch one genre forever I have no idea which one I would choose, probably high fantasy because I can’t get into high fantasy, it goes way over my head and I just get completely confused. I loved your answers, I have no idea why dating/marrying a non reader would be a big deal? People have different interests and that’s totally chill lol.
