This week’s Top Ten Tuesday theme is an audio freebie, meaning we can cover anything we want as long as it has to do with audio. I struggled to come up with a topic to cover – I don’t listen to podcasts, audiobooks are hard for me to listen to at this season in my life, and I already share the music I jam out to with y’all every Friday. So, after a lot of thinking, I decided to make a list of ten books that feature music as a main theme of the story. I wouldn’t consider this a top ten post, but instead merely a list that is ten books long.

If you read my review for You’d Be Mine you’ll know how much I absolutely adore this book. Hahn captured the country music scene so perfectly while creating two of the best characters I’ve ever met. To be honest, I hadn’t really listened to country music in about six years due to an evolution in my music preferences, but ever since reading this one there’s been a lot of Luke Bryan and Dierks Bentley being played.
If I Stay is one of those books that I will never stop loving. Mia and Adam are both wrapped entirely in music. Mia prefers classical while Adam likes rock, and the dynamic between the two of them and their very different genres mixing is so fun.
If you haven’t read Echo yet, you are missing out. This is such a powerful and intricately woven middle grade novel. When I read it I actually listened to the audiobook and I highly recommend it. They actually included music in the audio version and it really added something special.
I haven’t actually read On the Come Up yet (I know I know….), but the main character, Bri, dreams of being the greatest rapper of her time. I’ve even heard that during the book tour, Angie Thomas could be seen spitting some bars.
In This Song Will Save Your Life, Elise doesn’t feel like she belongs anywhere, until she discovering DJing. This book is all about finding the thing that speaks to your soul and the power of music.
Just Listen is my favorite Sarah Dessen novel, and now that I think about it it may actually be the first one I read. Throughout the novel, Annabel learns that just like listening to music, sometimes you have to listen to your heart too.
Audrey, Wait! is such a fun read! Most girls want songs written about them, but when it happens to Audrey she hates it. Her ex-boyfriend’s song about their breakup is a huge hit which makes Audrey somebody the press and paparazzi want to know, but all she wants is to be left alone.
Chopsticks is an incredible visual novel that left me floored. Glory, a piano prodigy, retreated into her music after her movie died. As a teenager, she disappears, and the reader starts to get flashes of the events leading up to her disappearance.
Night Music is centered around classical music and takes place over the course of a summer in New York City. The two main characters are trying to figure out who they are with and without music, while also figuring out how to be together. I haven’t read it yet, but I’ve been hearing wonderful things about it!
Full of diversity, Spin follows the mystery surrounding the death of sixteen-year-old Paris Secord (aka DJ ParSec). This book dives into the local music scene and examines what comes along with fame – intense fans, the media, and the ever present paparazzi.
What are your favorite books involving music? Let me know in the comments!

I found this topic really tricky too as I don’t listen to audiobooks or podcasts. Love your recommendations though.

Before I became a stay at home mom, I would listen to audiobooks while I worked and would listen to at least one a day! I definitely appreciate audiobooks and now enjoy listening to them on long car rides.

A fav that comes to mind regarding music is S. Jae-Jones’ Wintersong which is a Goblin King retelling where the protagonist is a composer from a family of musicians and her music plays a large role in her discovery of self as well as her relationship with the Goblin King and the musical writing in it is absolutely gorgeous.

Okay, you convinced me. I just put myself on hold at the library for On the Come Up. I think my favorite book featuring music is Frequency by Christopher Krovatin.

I adored Jessica Pennington’s debut LOVE SONGS & OTHER LIES last year! It has a battle of the bands type of reality tv show and there’s lots of music! I also just finished rereading You’d Be Mine last night and country music has definitely been on play in mu house a lot now too
